Who we are

loveSandy (lovesandy.co.uk) is a free directory of businesses in Sandy, Bedfordshire. It is run by Trendfingers, which decides how the personal information described here is used (the "controller" under UK data protection law).

Business listings

Most listings come from Google Maps: business name, address, phone number, website, opening hours and Google rating. We only list businesses that are already public on Google, and we refresh the details at least once a month. Listings can also be added or corrected by the business itself.

Where a business is run by one person (a sole trader), these details can be personal information. We publish them because it's in the interest of local people and the businesses themselves to find each other (our "legitimate interests"). A business can ask us to correct its listing, hide its address or remove it altogether using the report a problem form. To stop competitors removing each other, we check removal requests through the contact details on the listing before acting on them, and we keep a short note of removed listings so they aren't added again.

We may also write to listed businesses by post, for example to offer help with a website. We use only the public business address for this. If you don't want any more letters, tell us and we'll stop.

What you send us through forms

Our forms ask for:

• Add your business: the business details to publish, and your name, role, email and phone number so we can check the request and contact you. Your contact details are never published.
• Need a website: your name, business, contact details and what you need, so we can reply with a quote.
• Free Google profile check: your name, business, email and, if you like, your phone number, so we can send the report and reply.
• Report a problem: what's wrong, your connection to the business and your contact details, so we can check the report and reply.

We use these details only to deal with your request and to reply to you. Our reason for using them is our legitimate interest in running the directory accurately or, for a website quote, taking steps you asked for before a possible contract. We don't sell or share them, and we don't add you to a mailing list.

Submissions are sent to us as emails and kept for up to 12 months after your request has been dealt with. If you become a customer, we keep what we need for our records and accounts for as long as the law requires (usually six years). Removal requests are kept for as long as the listing stays removed.

Services we use

• Hetzner Online (Germany) hosts the site, including its fonts and icons, so nothing is loaded from Google or other font services. Like every web server, it keeps a short log of requests, including IP addresses, for security and fault-finding; the logs are deleted after 14 days.
• BlueFox Email (EU) delivers form submissions to our inbox.
• Open-Meteo (Switzerland) supplies the weather bar. Your browser asks Open-Meteo for Sandy's weather directly, so it sees your IP address but not who you are.
• Google Maps: the map view on category pages is a Google map. It is only loaded when you press "Map", and from then on Google sees your IP address and can set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy. Links to directions and reviews open Google Maps in the same way. Nothing is loaded from Google Maps until you choose it.

Cookies

loveSandy doesn't use cookies, advertising or tracking. Your browser keeps the latest weather for 30 minutes (in its local storage) so it doesn't have to ask again on every page; it contains nothing about you, and you can clear it in your browser settings. If you open the map on a category page, Google Maps may set its own cookies, as described above.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop or limit using it. You can object at any time to us using it for our legitimate interests, including letters by post. Email hello@lovesandy.co.uk and we'll reply within one month.

Children

loveSandy is meant for adults and businesses. The forms are not meant for anyone under 16.
